zionlutheranchurch@mchsi.comZion reaches out in love and service to the local community through the Hope House Ministries. The ministries of Hope House include a food pantry, a bread ministry and a sharing of Holiday Food Baskets. We invite all to join us Mondays and Wednesdays 3:30-5:00 at the Food Pantry as we share with our neighborhood and community the bounty that God so generously and graciously has given to us. The pantry provides supplemental food assistance to those in need of short term emergency help. The pantry is supported by the generosity of the members of Zion through the giving of their selves, time and the donations of supplies and money that stock the shelves of our pantry.
Free Panera bread on Wednesday mornings is shared with our neighbors and anyone who passes by and is in need. The bread ministry provides free bread to the community and also provides a great opportunity for those who help to get to know our neighbors better as the pace is slow and allows for time to have conversation with those who stop by. The pantry and the bead ministry provide opportunities for Zion and the community to gather together and get to know each other better as we share in the fellowship of God’s love.
Holiday Food Baskets another way Zion reaches out in love to the community. The holidays can be challenging and can stretch the limited resources of many in our community. On an annual basis Zion shares its bounty with our neighbors and friends through the Holiday Food Baskets Ministry. We come together to collect food, put the baskets together and then distribute them. If you feel called to this ministry please contact the church during the Holidays and we will connect you with the Ministry team.
Please join us in our call to reach out in love and service to our community. Contact Janine Johnson at jsalo1@msn.com for more.
Neighborhood Cookout
Neighborhood/Community Meals
Every third Wednesday Zion lives out the second half of our vision statement, "to Reach Out in Love," with a meal prepared, served to, and eaten with our neighbors, residents of the homeless shelters, and others in our community in need. We begin at 5:30 or 6:00pm and end the meal at 7:00pm.
Zion began this ministry in March 2010 with a Holy Week meal for about 35 people, and it has since grown to serve over 100! Our August cookout/meal included a school supply & backpack giveaway, ending with 60+ children gathering to be blessed (along with their backpacks) for a healthy, safe school year. Zion has heard and responded to a call to service and caring for our neighbors, not to mention the friendship building that naturally happens as we serve, dine with, and encourage one another with the hospitality and love of Christ.
If you would like to be a part of this ministry, give Janine Johnson or Pastor Del Preston a call in the Zion office (322-3533) or send us an e-mail inquiry (zionlutheranchurch@mchsi.com) In being a blessing, we are truly blessed!
