Visiting the people of Kirangare Lutheran Parish in Tanzania will change your life!

This is not mere tourism. It is a pilgrimage. You will experience the most extraordinary hospitality from some of the world’s poorest yet most faithful people. Somehow, in God’s most mysterious way, God has made it so the people of Kirangare can speak the healing gospel into our parched hearts, and we into theirs – just by being together.

Zion's next visit to Kirangare Lutheran Parish is planned for 2026 - Monday, September 14 through Saturday, September 26. Now is the time to consider traveling with this group.

Travel overview

Budget

The trip will cost roughly $2,500 per person – the great majority of which will be airfare and in-country transportation. Zion plans to fundraise financial assistance. But consider who in your life may be willing to support you. One former Zion traveler to Tanzania was surprised when family and friends funded his trip. Don’t let finances be a barrier. Ask and you will receive.

Time

We will spend 11 days in Tanzania, plus two days for travel - Monday, September 14 through Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Transport

We will fly from Chicago O’Hare airport and layover in Europe, likely Amsterdam, before arriving in Tanzania. Each leg is roughly nine hours in the air; 18 hours total. We will land in Dar Es Salaam. Then we'll travel by bus or car to Kirangare and to other in-country locations. And between Kirangare, Idaru, Mpare, and Marindi, we will walk and ride motorbikes.

Plan to get physically fit in the months before the trip.

Documents

You will need a valid U.S. passport and a Tanzanian visa. Travel insurance is highly recommended.
